Every summer, DCPS provides extended summer learning opportunities such as literacy enrichment for elementary students and credit recovery for secondary students. Students who participate in summer programming have opportunities to form new friendships, strengthen academic skills, and prepare for the year ahead. There is no cost to attend a DCPS summer program and participation is optional. Most programs will start on July 5, 2022 and run through August 5, 2022.
This five-week, full day program is a unique opportunity for elementary students to engage in hands-on, enriching academic instruction each morning and fun summer activities (games, crafts, and more) each afternoon. Students who participated in Summer Acceleration last year formed new friendships, strengthened their literacy and math skills, and had fun learning and growing with their peers!

Off-track high school students, especially potential 2022 summer graduates, will have an opportunity to earn original high school credit. These opportunities will be limited, and students should work with their school counselor to find out how to take advantage of this opportunity.
Students who need an opportunity to re-take courses required for graduation can take advantage of these summer course offerings by working with their school counselor to be enrolled and scheduled in credit recovery classes to receive up to 2 credits to get back on track for a timely graduation. Credit recovery is available for most required core classes. Please note that credit recovery can only be taken if the student has previously attempted and failed the original version of the course. Students should work directly with their school counselor.

Students take a 2-credit course on The Ethics of Washington Lawyering, as well as a 3-credit externship seminar. In previous years, students have worked in major federal agencies and nonprofit groups that are often national leaders in their fields. Externships in the past few years have included the U.S. Department of Justice, the U.S. Department of Commerce, the U.S. Department of Education, the Securities and Exchange Commission, and the D.C. Office of the Attorney General. A year-by-year list of prior placements since 2003 is available under the Externships page.Several field trips have been included in past years, including tours of the U.S. Capitol, CIA headquarters, the Federal Trade Commission, the U.S. Supreme Court, and White House. The program offers a number of social outings as well. Students speak highly of their time spent in D.C. and find that the bonds they form with each other add to the value of the experience. For more information on the classes and field trips, visit the Summer Experience page and check out this Twitter thread recap of the 2019 summer program.

This four-week program is designed to introduce young children to creative movement exploration using movement games, imagery, and guided improvisation. Children develop body awareness, increased strength, and motor coordination. Students will exercise creativity, imagination, rhythm, and motion as they explore early dance concepts in a nurturing and developmentally appropriate environment. This class meets twice per week during the summer and will culminate in our Summer Showcase at 6pm on July 21.

TWSB reserves the right to terminate any student from participation in productions without refund of fees if they feel the student is not prepared, is disruptive to the process, or if their parent/guardian is disruptive to the process. Dismissal from a production does not constitute a dismissal from classes and programs and does not entitle them to a refund of tuition. Dismissal from classes and programs constitutes dismissal from all TWB productions. NO REFUNDS will be given for production fees if a student is dismissed from classes and is therefore dismissed from a production.
